A $.54 apple is all it takes

So I know I still have to write about Thanksgiving but this was pretty cool so I thought I would share.  Tonight after Sigma Alpha I was craving some soup(well my body needed the heat since it was like 45 degrees out) so I thought to myself  "hmmm I shall go to Safeway" and on my way I also think "hmm an apple sure does sound delicious."  I arrived at Safeway ready to pick up my delicious soup and guess what?!? NO SOUP!!  They were all out, guess everybody had the same thought as me :) Then I contemplated, well I have an apple in my hand already, should I buy it, I am going to sure look silly standing in a long line to purchase one single apple.  Well something made me buy that darn $.54 apple.  And I discovered why.  I walked outside, apple in hand, next I know a homeless man comes up to me and asks me for some money, I don't carry cash normally, so I said "Sir, I am sorry I do not have any cash, but I do have this delicious apple if you would like it" and he replied "Thank you ma'am", a smile lit his face up as I handed over that $.54 apple.  After I thought, I wonder how long it has been since that man has had a fresh piece of fruit, it sure seemed to make his day and I know that God had me buy that apple for that purpose.  I took an extra 30 minutes out of my night to buy an apple that I didn't even get to enjoy.....but you know what I am sure glad I did because I know that man enjoyed that apple and appreciated it way more than I would have. Life's little blessings.

Just Another Week as Kalea!!

Not too much has happened over the last couple of weeks, but I decided that if I didn't blog a little bit about it I would have a TON to write after Thanksgiving! Last Wednesday I drove home for a doctors appointment on Thursday, before I left I was in a lot of pain in my chest, I thought weird but not the end of the world. When I got home I hung out with the family and Kendra and Melody came over!! Oh my goodness it was so good to see them, Melody is getting so big and is such a happy baby. Kendra is doing great, she misses Ted a lot though! Ted is her husband who just went off to boot camp for 3 months, it has been hard on her but she has this poem that Ted told her about that they sing, it gives her a lot of peace to think about. Kendra also wears his wedding ring on her neck with a yellow ribbon. Nileah just loves when I come home, the longer I am gone the more she is attached to me, I especially love when she comes and cuddles with me the next morning. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE sleeping in my own bed! Too funny, so Chris came over that morning and was laying on my bed talking to me, Nileah was cuddling with me and rolls over to Chris and says "I would cuddle with you, but I miss Kalea because she is never here and you are always here." I started cracking up laughing. My doctors appointment went good, nothing was "wrong". So I headed back down to Tucson for a review session for Chemistry and all of a sudden my
was aching with pain, so bad I ended up going to hospital. We waited forever, Cheyenne being the loving best friend stayed with me until Christopher got there. We got out of the hospital at 1am, I basically stayed in bed the whole day, and missed my Chemistry exam!! But I did get a burst of energy at the end of the day and decided that I would go to the Ice Cats game-I had already told Sigma Alpha I was going and could not back out. So I went, it was intense!!!!! I am still not sure how I feel about it, but I might venture to another one someday. Saturday I was punished for my burst of energy, I woke up with an aching headache and sides killing me, my bed was my best friend again ALLLLL Day!!! Sunday was homework and bed day! So it was Monday, I was terrified, i had to go talk to my Chemistry professor and tell him I missed the exam-BUT I got great news, I didn't have to take it! He is just going to average all of my tests grades and give me that one! Sigma Alpha that night, just a meeting, nothing too exciting. Tuesday best news ever, my 85% on my Trad Exam was curved to an 88% Wednesday was school, also fantastic news- my Chemistry teacher is going to drop one of lowest homework assignments(I got a 0 on one because I read the due date wrong), all of the assignments are added up and equal an exam, H-E-L-L-O 97%!!!! Then I went to CRU, a Christian College Ministry on Campus, super fun, love going! Now its Thursday, today I went to Tanque Verde to see my students for one last practice before district tomorrow, they are so special! I love them all and they are all getting way better at Floriculture!!! So that's pretty much life right now, I am going home tomorrow to meet with Heather to work on our COLT workshop and then go to the lake with mom and dad :)

HaLlOwEeN!!! & Activation (Sigma Alpha)

Then it was Halloween time! I dressed up as Barbie, Chris and Kevin were ghost busters, and Kyle was "The Situation".
Monday morning, bright and early, I woke up to register for my classes next semester, I successfully got into all of them! Then I of course went back to bed for a much needed 1 more hour of sleep.
November 2- VOTED!!!
Wednesday November 3, I had a big day, I had school then I went straight to
Tanque Verde for officer family night that I put on. Tanque Verde is a fairly new school so the parent
s are not as supportive of FFA so I did a little potluck night with a power point and activities to get them more familiarized with the program and what their students can get out of it. It was an awesome night! Then after that I went back to the school to take my Sigma Alpha test, in order to be in the sorority you had to get an 85% better, I received a 98%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then on Friday night, I had Sigma Alpha again, Family Night, it is where we get into our “families” in the sorority, get to know each other more, and do activities. After I went to CRU(a Christian college group) prayer and worship night, then to a girls dorm to watch Baby Mama. Courtney is amazing! I did not know it until Saturday, but I guess we have known each other since we were children, she went to New Hope Community Church! She goes to CRU, is in Sigma Alpha, and we are like two peas in a pod! God had a plan!

J Saturday was the BIG day!! We had activation, which I cannot really talk about because we take oath not to say anything about it, but it was really cool all the membership candidates had white dresses on and the actives had black dresses. I received "The Most Dedicated" to Sigma Alpha Award- completely unexpected!!(More Sigma Alpha Pictures to come)After activation we met with our families to eat Olive Garden, the whole gang came down for me J Before the next event we had some time, so I took them all to the bookstore and then to my apartment for some relaxation time. Nileah loves Kevin, he was teaching her Chemistry and Lauren hung up my name in my room! Then we all went bowling for a fundraiser, then to BK’s (the best Mexican food restaurant in Tucson-it was on the food network). After that, everyone left except Chris, we came back to the apartment and I crashed, I wanted to hang out with everyone but I was so exhausted I fell asleep at 8:30pm and didn’t wake up until 9am. Sunday was a study day ALL day! And today, it was just an average school day! Man O’ Mighty, I have done a lot and I feel bad I have not updated my blog in a while because I know I miss important detail of my life I would love to add but I just can’t remember a month’s worth of events.

Goals for the month:

1) Be more crafty- I have been aspiring to do more crafts, I am determined to find time to start them. First project will be a new headband.

2) Use coupons- I want to see how much people use coupons once they are clipped out, I have done all the clipping and I am going to try to use them this month!

3) Make a crafty bin for storing old homework assignments, basically a beautified filing crate!

4) Hang up more pictures and personalization stuff in my room

5) Apply for MORE scholarships

6) Get grades up!!

7) By STUDY! STUDYING! AND MORE STUDYING!

Exciting NEWS!!- Just got an 85% on my Trad Exam! Yahoo, that's the best one so far, I have hope for an A!!! And I just thought of a project for my English project, going to make a collage of stuff to show the controversy in Malaria Control! Super STOKED! And I got Google chrome for my internet (AWESOME!!) And I need to study hard, I have a Chemistry Exam on Friday! BUT then I get to the Ice Cats(hockey) game after with Courtney and some other Sigma Alpha girls!!

HOMECOMING!!!

Lets fast forward to Homecoming week!! On October 18, I had a Big Sis/Little Sis dinner for Sigma Alpha! My Big Sis’ name is Jillian, she is super awesome and I am so lucky to have her as a big sis, I am sad though because she is leaving after next semester! October 19, we stuff the cowboy for homecoming with the aggie house, then they made us dinner which was delicious. On Friday, I had to wake up at 4:30 am to be at the golf tournament by 5:30, it wasa long morning, good thing I slept at Cheyenne’s so she could wake me up.
All day I was at a hole with Jimmy Wojick and Alumni, we were raising
money for scholarships, it was very successful, at the one hole we raised $2,000!!After the golf tournament was over, I went back to the school to work more on the Auction. We got done around 3, I went ho
me took a nap and went back to school for a Sigma Alpha sisterhood event! We did a huge scavenger hunt, our team dominated!!
Some of the stuff we had to do was get in a trash can, drink out of the same glass, jumping picture, Sigma Alpha gangster sign, Charlie’s angel pose, kiss a stranger, and much much more!!After we went back to Cheyenne’s house(not FFA Cheyenne), we painted our paddles for our Big Sis’, mine turned out so girly and pink-but adorable!! I went home at 1am and had to get up again at 4:30 to get ready for the auction, which went fantastic, we raised a total of $19,000!!!
Every day I had work because we were rushing to get ready for the auction and golf tournament. I worked over 30 hours, BIG PAY CHECK!!!! After the auction I was suppose to go to the football game, but I was so exhausted I went home and slept for the rest of the day! That Sunday I was still exhausted, so I did homework all day and then we carved pumpkins- I carved a “K” with bubbles, my best work J Monday we had a professional development for Sigma Alpha- once a month we have a speaker come in and talk to use about careers, it is really awesome, this month it was about UA Career Services and what they offer. Then Wednesday I went to a Disney internship expo, so I have decided that next year I am going to do a Disney internship and take the fall semester off school, I will still get 12 units and they will just put me on leave of absence at UA, I also talked to Lauren and she want to do it with me!!! Yay!! Yay!
I also carved pumpkins(it was a flower) with the Horticulture club, I am not officially apart of the club but eventually i would like to be if they get more organized :) I was also asked by my advisor, Tanya, who is AWESOME, to write some plant science modules for grades K-5, I have some good ideas that she loves, so we will see how those go!! As well I applied for a leadership internship next semester for a company called Growing Leaders, really special company that I experienced with FFA, I still haven’t found out, but I hope I do soon!

What did the Daddy tomato say to the baby tomato on their walk.....Ketch-up!!!

WOW!!! It is already November, I haven't written in over a month, life has been a little busy, but tonight, though I have studying to do I have decided to blog because the rest of the week is going to be very stressful.>But before we get to all that, I have to tell you all about October!!!I think I am going to split it up so it is not as overwhelming, but don’t worry there will be pictures First of all it is officially fall and boy do I love fall!! Probably one of my favorite seasons except in Arizona, the only thing that changes colors are the street lights!! I went to the Rascal Flatts concert with Niane, Bonnie, and Ron, it was a blast!!!It was a pretty calm concert with fantastic music; lawn seats are perfect when everyone stays seating!! Rascal Flatts is really good in concert, their voices actually sound real. Except to get to the concert was kind of crazy, I had school until 4 and the concert started at 7, I booked it home and immediately jumped back into the car to go to the concert. On the way to the concert I told Niane about my genius business plan that we are going to start soon…..Super Excited! Then the next week school, school, and more school! Oh and I started work at the CALS Alumni Office!
I had a scholarship reception for College of Agriculture and Life Sciences where I was recognized for the RAK scholarship and getting on the Dean’s List for my GPA last semester.I had the chance to take a picture with Dean Sanders, the last scholarship reception where he
is the dean! I was super excited to see mom and dad for a couple hours!
Saturday I went to the game with Tosha and Erin, it was super fun, except it was so long ago I cannot remember who we were even playing against! But I do know we played awful and we lost! The next week it was all studying, I had 3 exams, Chem Lab, Chem Lecture, and Math, I ended up getting a 82% on my chem. Lecture and a 95% on my math(probably the best grades I will get this semester). This semester is super hard for me, all my classes are not very interesting because they have nothing to do with my major, I study hard and nothing comes out of it, but I am trying my best to stay up because I know I have scholarships to maintain. I have come to realize that I have to work really hard for some grades and that is practically all my grades this semester. But I do still have some time for fun, I am still coaching the Floriculture Team at Tanque Verde High School every Thursday, they are wonderful, each one Jeremy, Corine, Cheyenne, and Mary are all very special in their own ways to me. I look forward to going there every week to help them learn more about floriculture. Oh and I haven't really been on facebook for a month, so proud of myself, I recently went on to post pictures but that's about it! I get so much more accomplished!! Next post will be all about Homecoming and Sigma Alpha!!
